Ordering & Licensing FAQ

Below you will find answers to the most common questions regarding ordering and licensing. If you cannot find an answer to your question, simply contact us.

Ordering questions

All prices are in Euros, but my country uses a different currency. Can I still order in my own currency?

Yes, you can! All major currencies are supported, and you can always change your currency during the ordering process. This will also show you the exact costs of your order in your currency. However, we recommend to pay in Euros when paying via credit card, since exchange rates will usually be lower in this case.

Which payment methods do you support?

All major payment methods are supported, including credit card, bank transfer, PayPal and cash payments. Many local payment services are supported as well.

Can I also order directly from Shoran Software?

Yes, you can also order directly from us, however, we can only accept PayPal or direct bank transfer as payment methods. Simply contact us for further details.

I placed an order for RenderPal V2. What's next?

Once your order has been approved and paid, we will request the so-called UMIC and Verification Code from you in order to create a unique license. Once we have received them, we will send you an email containing your license file, as well as download information for the full version.

Licensing questions

How is RenderPal V2 licensed?

RenderPal V2 is licensed on a node-base, which means that the RenderPal V2 Server supports up to as many clients as you purchased. A client (or node) refers to a client instance added to the server, not to a single machine or CPU (so the CPU core count doesn't matter). In most cases, you will buy one node license for each rendering machine you have, but it is also possible to run multiple clients on one machine, thus requiring more than one license for that computer. A site license supports an unlimited amount of nodes.

What is your update policy?

Unlike many other companies, we do not charge any fees for updates to RenderPal V2. In other words, all updates are free for registered users.

Do purchased licenses expire?

No, licenses do not expire.

Can I upgrade my license at a later time to support more nodes?

Yes, you can always buy additional nodes for an existing license. In this case, you should just drop us a note before ordering, so we know that you want to upgrade your license. You can then just order additional node licenses from our online shop. If you want to upgrade to a site license, just contact us.

On how many machines can I use the Server, Client and Remote Controller?

The RenderPal V2 Server may only be used on one machine; the RenderPal V2 Client and RenderPal V2 Remote Controller may be installed on as many machines as you like, but the number of clients the server supports depends on your purchased licenses (a site license doesn't impose any limits, while a node license only allows you to add up to as many clients as you have node licenses).

I am not sure about the UMIC and Verification Code. Could you explain it a bit further?

The UMIC and Verification Code are used to create an unique license for you. We will create a license file based on these that will be needed to run the RenderPal V2 Server (since this is the only part of RenderPal V2 that requires a license). This also means that the two codes have to be generated on the machine you will run the server on - this is very important! The codes can be generated either by using the RenderPal V2 Trial (using the "Register RenderPal V2" entry in the Help menu) or by using the UMIC Generator (a link to download this tool is included in the registration email you will receive from us).

Can I change my server hardware or move the RenderPal V2 Server to a different machine?

In most cases, this will not affect your RenderPal V2 license. In some cases, however, your license might not work anymore, and RenderPal V2 will come up with a dialog where you can request a new license from us. Just send us the email RenderPal V2 will generate for you and we will send you a new license file. Moving the server to a different machine works in the same way. Install the RenderPal V2 Server on the new machine (after removing any previous server installation, of course), and the dialog telling you that the license is invalid will come up.

Is it true that I can get a free 3 nodes license?

Yes, this is entirely true! We indeed offer a 3 nodes license for free. To request one, follow the corresponding entry in the main menu.

Can I buy additional licenses for my free 3 node license?

No, the free license cannot be upgraded. If you need additional nodes, you need to buy licenses for the three nodes as well.
